Rotary Draw Bending

Rotary draw bending is the foundation for all of Detroit Tube Products’ fabrications. Every fabrication is created through the rotary bending process. Bending a tube with a rotary is an efficient process that our company stands by. But how does rotary draw bender work?

Benefits of Rotary Draw Bending

Using rotary draw bending in tube manufacturing provides a variety of benefits for the manufacturer and consumer. This technique uses a rotary die to bend tubes and pipes into specific shapes and angles. A mandrel, if used, is inserted into the tube to maintain its structural integrity during the bending process. The technique provides precision/accuracy, consistency, and adaptability when creating simple and complex shapes.

This process can also be an overall cost-saver as it also reduces material waste.

Rotary Draw Tube Bender

To make our fabrications, Detroit Tube Product uses rotary draw benders. In addition to singular bends, the rotary draw can make complex bends. But what goes into the rotary bend process? How does this machine have the capacity to make nice, tight diameters?

First of all, the bender needs specific dies. You have to choose the proper bend, wiper, pressure, and clamp die to get the type of bend you desire. As a result, using this type of machinery is mostly for production-run quantities. Then you must select the material for the fabrication. It is important to know that it’s much easier for the tube to maintain its shape if it’s made out of thicker material.

After selecting the dies and materials that you need, you will insert the tube into the mandrel to help the material maintain its shape. As the tub goes through the bender, the rotary and pressure die will push the tube into the desired shape set by the bending die. To make complex bends, you have to do one side before flipping the tube over. While there are more complex variations of the rotary draw bender, the traditional one is just as effective at getting the job done.

Applications of Rotary Draw Bending

As we mentioned above, the versatility of the machine allows it to be used in a variety of applications. Our company serves a variety of industries with our fabrications. Some of the bends have been used to make replacement parts for historical restorations for example. Other tubes have been used in diesel engines and other machinery. Regardless of the application, Detroit Tube Product is capable of producing custom tube bending and other fabrications to fit your needs.
